Syniverse to Buy VeriSign’s Mobile Messaging Unit

Wednesday August 26th

Mobile infrastructure vendor Syniverse has agreed to acquire the mobile messaging business of VeriSign for about US$175 million.

The acquisition will include VeriSign products that help mobile operators deliver SMS (Short Message Service) and MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service) messages, provide picture messaging applications and deliver third-party content, as well as tools for enterprises to automatically send messages to employees, customers and partners. Syniverse, based in Tampa, Florida, hopes to complete the deal by the end of this year.

VeriSign started out as an SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) certification authority and branched out into managing Internet DNS (Domain Name System) infrastructure by buying Network Solutions in 2000.

Syniverse plans to bring on most of the 300 employees from the VeriSign unit, most of them in the U.S. and the Asia-Pacific region, including more than 100 in India, the company said. There is some overlap between Syniverse and VeriSign’s inter-carrier message gateway businesses, but VeriSign’s PictureMail, Premium Messaging Gateway and Mobile Enterprise Solutions product lines will bring Syniverse into new markets, said Syniverse spokeswoman Diane Rose.

Do you understand the Concept’s of RAID?

The acronym RAID means Redundant Array of Independent (or Inexpensive) Disks. RAID contains different level of RAID version is defined, each providing different trade-offs in features and performance.

There are two main purposes of RAID Technology:-

a)  Method of storing the same data in different areas

b)  Speed up and stabilize your computers performance.

RAID is not necessarily easy to install and maintain on your own computer system, and some of the people think why it’s required and don’t know how effective the technology is for every organization, If you could assume that had a hard drive crash, you know how costly in time and effort it is to restore the data on that hard drive. So if we are using RAID technology with your hard drive there is no need to restore your data and application because it already getting redundant on other hard drives which is in process at the back. So you can think what the effectiveness of RAID on your time and money to restore your data and application.

What Types of RAID Are Available?

There are a number of variations of RAID; every RAID has their own functionality, advantages and disadvantages.

1.  RAID Level 0 is based on a method and it’s called striping, as per RAID 0 functionality is concerned that is segmenting the data on your computer into smaller chunks of data that are placed across all available disk drives, and that smaller packets of data scattered across a number of drives can be very quickly pulled together into a coherent whole.

2. RAID Level 1 introduces the benefit of mirroring or copying all of your data onto at least one another drive, perhaps even onto many other drives. This ensures that your data will be duplicated in whole on at least one other hard disk, so if your data is lost in a disk failure, there is at least one extant copy immediately available.

The biggest disadvantage to RAID 1 is the cost of having additional disk drives containing the mirror of your data.

3. Combination of RAID Levels 0 and 1

This is the combination as under the functionality or features of RAID 0 and 1. This combination offers the best of both worlds. The main functionality of this is redundancy of your data and improving performance.

4.  RAID 5 is often viewed as the ideal mix of good performance, good fault tolerance, high capacity and storage efficiency. Reason being that RAID 5 stripes both data and parity information across three or more drives.

Instead of mirroring data, RAID 5 stores parity (error-checking) information. If there’s an error or bit corruption, the parity data should catch it, and the RAID controller should correct.  Is RAID Hardware Better Than RAID Software?

What about Unlimited Bandwidth in Hosting?

bandwidth

Nothing is unlimited, be aware of it!!

What do you mean by unlimited bandwidth, and how any provider can provide unlimited bandwidth at such a cheaper cost. In hosting the main elements are web space and bandwidth. Disk space is the space you have allotted on the web server to store your website. Bandwidth is an amount you have available to transfer web pages from the web server to the browsers of visitors to your site.

“Suppose if you could get unlimited bandwidth for around $20.00 a month or less, so why isn’t Yahoo or Microsoft hosted there and why they are investing enormous resources and money in bandwidth and data transfer usage”.

If you are looking for unlimited bandwidth so you must be aware about the concept of unlimited bandwidth which described under following points.

  • Analysis of website for unlimited bandwidth qualification:-

A lot of hosts do this – if your site uses less than, say, 5 gigs per month, it qualifies for unlimited bandwidth. So before provide unlimited bandwidth it needs to analyze whether this site is qualified or not to allocate unlimited bandwidth. As soon as your traffic goes above that you no longer qualify for the unlimited bandwidth and are either charged for the excess or forced to move your site. In other words, it’s unlimited as long as you stay within the limits.

  • Restricted bandwidth.

If your site contains images, Mp3, zip, tar, exe, and number of file in which lot of graphics work done, so the bandwidth is not going to be unlimited and hosting provide will restrict you for your bandwidth usages.

  • Fake Commitment.

Some hosting provider say things like “We won’t penalize you for your success,” but once your site does become too popular, you find that your account has been deactivated or suspended. These are little backup plans they use as an excuse to deactivate an account, usually without refund, for whatever reason they want to. So always let the point clear in front of customers that we can provide this limit of bandwidth usage and if you reached the bandwidth usage limit that will cost some extra amount/month as per your requirement.

  • Why do they do it?

Hosts use false advertising because other hosts do it. They feel that user don’t know about bandwidth and what is the meaning of this?  Consumers also can’t assume how much bandwidth they required.

Statistically, most sites use less than 500 MB per month, which is 1/2 of one gig. Unless you are offering software or music or video downloads or are just very popular, you shouldn’t have to worry too much about bandwidth.

Let us see what is Cloud Computing or Cloud Hosting

article5-cloud-hosting-diagram

You may have already heard of cloud computing; but the question is, do you really know what it means?
If not so let us see what the concept of Cloud is hosting follows. Cloud Hosting or Cloud Computing is a computation or storage service that’s supported by a pool of distributed computing resources. But before attempting to grasp the concept of cloud hosting, it first helps to know a bit about cloud computing. Cloud computing is a form of computing where resources are provided as a service over the internet.

This type of hosting service allows you to upload your web applications and associated data to the hosting service. The web application is ‘distributed’ across a cluster of servers and all application run through all cluster servers and each server has different task. Enabling sharing and management services to large amounts of distributed data, representing the ultimate in scalability for unpredictable demands. Handling Security, backup, proper functionality depends on the cloud hosting servers and it benefits to the user to depend on a single server, it takes regular backups of your data and always synchronizes to cloud hosting servers and always communicates with all servers through the help of specified algorithm and protocols.

So who uses such services, and could they be right for you? Cloud hosting is ideal for web developers who need a reliable platform for applications, but who would rather not meddle in the technological aspect of the operations. Thus, the service gives developers more room and flexibility to practice innovation, rather than having to worry about web servers. So cloud hosting or cloud computing is basically designed to be a scalable environment for resource intensive application development.

For every organization data is the most important thing and every organization should take care of it by giving the high priority, if any company loss their important data so it can cost company millions of dollar and will also can face response of their customer base. Therefore companies need to make use of recovery solutions to safeguard their company’s reputation.

Get Secure with your online payment

Secure Sockets Layer (SSL), are cryptographic protocols that provide security and data integrity for communications over networks such as the Internet.

In today’s world web based businesses face a lack of confidence because of phishing scams. But SSL certificated is like a god for any online business which transfers the money through internet. Web sites will be able to demonstrate their identity, authentication and customers will be able to confirm the identity of trusted sites.

Many online shoppers and bankers always threatened about secure money transfer and they know the issue very well. For every organization two issues must be address, first is to identify a new category of SSL certificated that ensure a site owners identity, and the second is the browser interface that makes it easy to see the identity.

SSL certificates are communicating via an encryption and decryption session. SSL provides visitor to your website with the confidence to communicate securely. Public key encryption is a tactic that uses a pair of asymmetric keys for encryption and decryption. Each pair of keys consists of a public key and a private key. The public key is made public by distributing it widely. The private key is never distributed; it is always kept secret. Data that is encrypted with the public key can be decrypted only with the private key.

If anybody go for a payment then will get a payment gateway platform that are secured through SSL or Secured Socket Layer. When you enter your personal and or Credit Card information into a secure site, an encrypted public key is created. This is termed as a handshake to authenticate safe transaction. The unique encryption method which gets established in the process will have a unique session key. This process protects theft of valuable data and only the transaction that you intend to complete is processed.
